Ohio GOP to select new candidate

WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio (AP) — Republicans in Ohio's 14th Congressional District are convening to select a new candidate for the November election following longtime U.S. Rep. Steven LaTourette's announcement that he will retire.

An executive committee is scheduled to meet Friday in Willoughby Hills near Cleveland to select a candidate for the ballot, and officials say interested candidates still have time to submit their credentials to be considered.

Officials say they will make a selection before Monday.

LaTourette, who was elected to Congress in 1994 and has served nine terms, announced last month he wouldn't seek re-election. The Republican cited frustration over political gridlock in Washington for his decision.
